Azúcar! Schedule Update – Our Salsa classes

Our salsa classes are starting up again next week, and with a couple of changes coming up, thought we’d give you a quick update:

Intro to Salsa A (7 weeks; January 16 – March 2)
This is where you start to discover salsa, starting from the basics. In 7 weeks, you will learn the basic steps, cross-body lead, left and right turns, inside traveling turns, a few combinations, and basic styling. If you can count to 8, you can take this class.

  • Wednesdays, 7-8pm, with Darnell and Ali
  • Saturdays, noon-1pm, with Jeff and Ana

Intro to Salsa B (7 weeks; January 16 – March 2)
Our Intro course continues with another 7 weeks, focusing on the most common beginner salsa moves –  hammerlocks, open breaks, cuddles/sweetheart holds etc. – as well as styling and a few important partnering concepts. This is a natural continuation of Intro to Salsa A, but if you’re comfortable with the basic step, right and left turns, cross-body lead and inside traveling turn, this class might be for you.

  • Wednesdays, 6-7pm, with Jeff and Ana
  • Saturdays, 11am-noon, with Jeff and Ana

Intermediate 1 (ongoing)
Our former Salsa: Novice class has been renamed, and is now called Intermediate 1. This is an ongoing class at the intermediate level, focusing on more complex partnering concepts and techniques, including multiple turns, traveling turn technique, styling and, of course, lots of new moves. This course is run on a drop-in basis, and new material is taught every 2-3 weeks. Our Intro to Salsa course is a prerequisite for this level, and new students will be assessed to make sure this level is the right fit for you.

  • Mondays, 6-7pm, with Jeff and Ana
  • Wednesdays, 8-9pm, with Darnell and Ali

Intermediate 2 (ongoing)
Our former Salsa: Intermediate class is now Intermediate 2. This is our most advanced class, catering to dancers with a minimum of 1 year of experience and with a solid grasp of rhythm and timing, leading and following, styling and shines. You must be comfortable executing intermediate-level moves such as double spins (for both men and women), slingshots, copas, multiple traveling turns etc. This course is run on a drop-in basis, and new material is taught every 3 weeks. All students will be assessed to make sure this level is the right fit for you.

  • Mondays, 7-8pm, with Jeff and Emilie
