If you’ve been following this series, you now probably know why you need dance shoes, what they’re like, what to look for in a shoe, how to shop for them, and what accessories you might need. If these articles left you wondering “ok, but where do I get these shoes?”… we got you covered. Here is a quick overview of the various places you can get dance shoes in Ottawa:
Let’s start with the stores:
- Malabar Limited – Malabar sells both dance supplies and theatrical costumes; whether you’re looking for your next pair of ballroom shoes or ballet slippers, looking for your Halloween costume, or are in need of special effects make-up, they’ve got you covered.
We love Malabar – it’s the best mix of a semi-central location (on Merivale Avenue) and a decent selection of ballroom and Latin shoes. Their service is also quite good and staff fairly knowledgeable of the brands they carry.
Location: 1610 Merivale Road (just South of Meadowlands)
Hours: Mon-Thu: 10am – 6pm; Fri: 10am – 8pm; Sat: 10am – 5pm; Sun: closed.
Contact: 613-225-8374 ; firstname.lastname@example.org
- Brio Bodywear – Brio sells dance shoes, dancewear and swimwear. They have two locations in Ottawa, in the Glebe and in Westboro. We like Brio more for the location of their stores than for their selection of ballroom/Latin shoes, which is fairly limited. Service is a bit hit-and-miss; staff tend to be more knowledgeable of ballet shoes and attire, so you may be out of luck if you’re looking for advice on salsa shoes.
Locations: 911 Bank Street and 380 Richmond Road
Hours: Mon-Thu: 10am – 6pm; Fri: 10am – 8pm; Sat: 10am – 5:30pm; Sun: 12pm – 4pm.
Contact: 613-567-9291 (Bank St.) ; 613-721-1585 (Richmond Rd)
- DanceMasters – This Manotick store specializes exclusively in dancewear and dance shoes for all styles of dance. It’s a bit far for most of us, but it’s very, very worth the trip! Their selection of dance shoes is unmatched in the Ottawa area, and their staff are friendly, knowledgeable and unwaveringly helpful. We highly recommend you go check it out at least once – go on a Saturday, and make a day of it; the other lovely Manotick shops and restaurants won’t disappoint you either!
Location: 1138 O’Grady Street, Manotick, ON
Hours: Mon-Thu: 10am – 5:30pm; Fri: 10am – 7pm; Sat: 10am – 5pm; Sun: closed.
Contact: 613-692-6082 ; email@example.com
There are also a couple of dance stores in Gatineau, but we have not yet visited them. If you are interested in a review, or if you’ve been there and want to let us know your thoughts, leave a comment below!
But wait, there’s more!
Apart from dedicated stores, you can also find dance shoes at some dance studios, as well as dance events.
Ballroom dance studios, such as Fred Astaire Dance Studios, offer some dance shoes for sale, though most of their products are custom orders and will cost more than shoes you can pick up at a store.
GoSalsa, the local distributor of Ballo shoes, usually have a stand at Salsaria every other Saturday. Finally, salsa congresses such as Salsafair have several dance shoe vendor stands, often offering brands and styles not found in local stores.
